Izzy predicts the Redskins game

On 21 October 2007, Izzy looked at me and said, "Put me in the Redskins trash can, because I predict that they will get BLOWN OUT by the Patriots next weekend."

I said, "Izzy, you're a baby. You don't know anything about football. And you don't belong in a trash can."

She responded with, "I watch football every weekend with Daddy. We both watch through our eyelids, which helps filter out all the bad plays. Plus, I've been watching football my whole life, since I was born. You even tried to schedule my birth around football games (not on Thursday through Monday because of football.) I accomodated by arriving Tuesday Morning. We were home from the hospital by Thursday, just in time for football.

I countered with, "But Izzy, it's a garbage can."

Being the know-it-all that she is, she said, "It's a RECYCLING can, and it only had magazines in it. Plus, it's such a clear way of indicating my prediction. Redskins = garbage. It will just be for a minute."

Because she had backed me into a corner, I agreed. Here's the result.

Izzy in an outfit that Chris thought was okay.

Last Sunday, there was football on tv. So, Chris decided that Izzy should wear her Packers onesie. But here was the dilemma...we were going to go to the grocery store first, and I wanted her to wear her overall pants with the footies, because it got cold in any refrigerated section. So, I said I would put her overalls OVER the Packers onesie, but Chris said that if they were OVER the outfit, no one would be able to see the Packers logo. So he decided that the overalls should go UNDER the onesie. I know...before, he was joking about her outfit. But this time, he was dead serious. I took pictures, so that when Izzy got old enough to pick a favorite parent, I'd have proof that Daddy embarassed her from the start.

Notice how she's got her head pulled back? She's trying to get away from the outfit.

Her red cheeks show that even babies who are only 5 weeks old can be embarassed.

And in this one, she's resigned...after all, she's just a baby.

Izzy taking a bath

Izzy gets a bath every few days, depending on what ends up in her hair. If it's spit up, it can wait a day. But poop gets top priority. And sometimes, her neck smells so badly of sour milk, that the bath just cannot be avoided. She isn't very fond of baths yet, except for when her hair is washed. Hopefully, she'll learn to like the water...

We sit her in her little baby bath tub. Sometimes, she pees in it right away, just to mark her territory.

And then we wash her down. She wiggles around a lot, and sometimes, ends up with her face smushed into the side of the tub.

And she loves to get her hair washed. So I always do it right before I wash out her stinky neck, because she hates that. So it balances.

Then she gets bundled up in her towel, and dried off.

She looks like a burrito with eyes.

Naps

Izzy likes to take naps with her parents. Actually, Chris's favorite way to take care of Izzy is to take naps with her during weekend football games. I've only taken one nap with her...

The Outfit

Now that Izzy is getting bigger, we've started actually putting her in more than just her onesies. And we have a more impressive variety of onesies to choose from. And so we get to the Outfit. Chris went ahead and chose an outfit for Izzy to wear the other day. The only thing is that all Izzy's pants are too big, and it's still cold in the mornings. So, he put pants on her anyways...here's how it turned out.

It's the pants...

Oh, the horror!

Please, lower my waistline!

Does he have to do my hair AND my clothes?

***Please note that Chris deliberately dressed Izzy like this, because it was funny, and because in a few years, he will not be able to humiliate her like this and get away with it.

Izzy's First Bottle Feeding

Chris and I decided to start Izzy on bottles. I'm pumping (using a great Medela pump I received from Chris's Mom). It works great! Anyways, Izzy loves her bottles, which I heard is a hard transition form some babies. It's so nice to be able to sleep for more than 3 hours at a time! Chris loves being able to feed her, but wishes he didn't have to get up at night...suck it up. Anyways, here's a picture of Izzy getting her first bottle.

Hair, by Daddy

Chris decided that since Izzy has so much hair, he should learn how to style it, since he doesn't want to be one of those dads who do their daughters' hair, and it comes out lopsided (remember that awesome Pepsi commercial with LL Cool J in it?). Chris thought her current fuzzy look was not good enough for Izzy, so he fixed it to look more "current."

Here Izzy is, with her new 'do, a la Dad. Spiky is in for babies this season. Also notice our genius of a daughter who confuses her blanket with a boob.

And here's a better look at the spikes. In this one, though, taken just after the previous picture, she has realized that the blanket is in fact, not a boob, and will not be able to provide her with sustenance.

This is her resigned look. If the blanket doesn't feed her, then oh well. At least it's warm.

To all you readers out there who are also parents...this look is strange, yet familiar, right? Just after this picture was taken, Izzy promptly pooped.

And here she is, laying down, with a "are you done yet?" look. And those are my feet, which you will notice, are no longer swollen and actually look like feet, not over-risen bread dough.

The first of many fatalities

I got some flowers from a guy (and his family) that Chris works with, when Izzy was born. It came with this cute white stuffed animal bear. When the flowers died, we kept the bear for Izzy. Chris put the bear on the counter in the kitchen. And then the dogs got it. We knew they had something, but we thought it was a rock (They often fight over rocks...because they are in limited supply in our back yard). And then we went outside and it looked like it snowed. (The worst part...the bear had one of the "bean" butts, so I had to pick up individual pieces of plastic that were strewn across the yard.)

The dogs ripped the bear apart as they struggled in the ages old fight for stuffed animal dominance.

Rai won, that time, but continued to fight the fight, as Eden is not one to lose easily.

And here, Eden has overcome her handicap (her front teeth were not made for such a fight...they were made for eating peanut butter)

And this is what the bear looked like after the struggle.

This shows the death blow. Clearly, his seams were not reinforced...he could not have forseen his demise.

Izzy and the dogs...

No, that does not mean we left Izzy alone with the dogs...It just means we let the dogs say hello to her. Eden has shown a lot of interest in Isabelle, mostly by sniffing and licking. At first, she would bark whenever Izzy cried, but now she barely moves from her comfy pillow. Raisin also is interested in Izzy, but not as much as Eden. I think Rai just wants to eat Izzy's dirty diaper. But, both dogs have done well with Izzy so far. Here are some pics of a recent interaction...

Eden likes to smell her hair and lick her head. Probably because her head and hair smell like sour milk from where she spit up on herself, and it rolled in accordance with gravity.

Eden, now being a big sister, likes to tell Izzy secrets.

Izzy couldn't believe what Eden was saying...something about poop being a food...

And as Izzy breathed outward, Eden realized that the sour milk smell came not only from Izzy's hair, but strongly emanated from her mouth.

Here's a picture of Classic Izzy, right after she ate. Notice the hand tucked behind her head. I sleep that exact same way. Anyways, Rai is trying to locate the smell of fresh poop...
