Our first BIG baby gift!!!

Well, we have to have the baby now...Chris's parents got Isabelle her crib and crib mattress!!! Yay! At least she won't have to sleep in a crate with Raisin. Though Raisin probably would have liked it. The crib is one of those convertible cribs. It starts as a crib, then we can make it into a child's daybed with partial fencing, and then it could be a regular children's day bed (no fencing), and then it could be the headboard to a fullsize bed. So, hopefully it will last us that long. We put it together today, and it wasn't that hard! Which is good, since Chris and I have a hard time working together on tasks like that. We would never be able to do something like the Amazing Race...unless we were the team that everyone hated because they were always fighting.

Anyways, the crib is awesome! And even kind of matches with the other furniture in the room. Initially, I thought that when people came to visit, we could move the crib into our room, but now I see that it is way too big to fit out of the door, so Izzy will have to sleep in her pack and play (that we are hoping we get) when we have guests.

Since we don't have sheets or blankets yet, Chris made the bed with a blanket that Grammie made for him when he was little.

He also put in an afghan that was his when he was a baby.

And finally, the most important thing...Chris put "Railroad Man" in the crib for Izzy. Or to keep the Lion company.

Thanks so much to Don and Boo for the great crib and mattress!!!

Our Second Ultrasound!!!

We had our second (and final) ultrasound this morning. She is still a girl. Things all look good so far. She has the parts she is supposed to have, and nothing extra. Her head is down, and her she had her hands up by her face, and she was bent in half. She weighs either just over 2 lbs, or 2 lbs and 12-14 oz. Chris and I can't remember what the lady said. It also seems that she unfortunately has her mother's giant noggin, so I may be rethinking the "no epidural" idea.

She's been pretty active lately. Sometimes, she kicks and hits. Sometimes, I swear she is doing somersaults! It's like my whole body undulates with her movements. A lot of times, she seems lazy, and lets gravity do its thing (mainly, it shoves her head into my soft, cushy intestines and bladder, creating a hard lump at the bottom, and soft doughiness on top. Very attractive.) If I sit bent funny, she lets me know that she would like me to move by popping me good a few times. Overall, I figure she's going to be some kind of athlete, because she has tons of energy.

In this one, you can see the profile of her head. The ovally shape near her chin is a cross-section of her arm (I think). See the size of that melon?

This one is kind of creepy once you realize what you're looking at. Beautiful, but creepy. Look at the top, where all the white curvy lines are. Then, right below them, is a white curve with a black oval. That black oval is her eye socket, and the curve is her cheek. See?

And this last one is again her face in profile. It's harder to see, as she's moved her arms around her neck, but you can see a little nose, and lips, I think.

Anyways, that's what we've got so far...In approximately 80 days, you'll see her in color...hopefully. It would suck if she came out and was still in black and white.

San Diego Rock 'N' Roll Marathon

On January 9, 2007, Chris and I signed up for the Walt Disney World 1/2 Marathon on September 3, 2007. On January 12, 2007, I found out I was pregnant, and due on September 13, 2007. So, we couldn't do the WDW 1/2 marathon anymore. Then, we found out that my cousin's husband, Ben, was doing the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on June 3. Chris has just enough time to get 3 months of training in, so he signed up to do that one. Then, Ben got hurt, and decided not to do the race. But we'd already decided to go, so we went anyways. We stayed with Beth and Ben (and Morgan, who is super cute!) in LA for a night, then headed down to San Diego.

Anyways, Chris did well in his marathon. Not as well as he would have liked, but he beat his last marathon time by almost an hour and a half. He was on pace to run a 4:30 marathon, and then around mile 22, he started to really hurt. It turns out that the cushioning in one of his shoes went out! We looked at the shoes after the race, and it was clear that one of the heel areas had just crumpled! But, strangely enough, after doing a marathon, after a few days, he wasn't even sore anymore!

So, I've already signed him up for the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in Phoenix in January. We've got a hotel room booked, and a crib reserved. We're hoping that Chris's brother, Jake, will come out and run with Chris. That's why we got the room with two beds. And also, Chris has already admitted that the free concert would be way more fun to see with Jake, than me. Sadly, he's right. I'm not much fun at concerts. Unless there's really good dancing, I could hear the same thing on the radio, or watch it on TV.

Here are some pictures of the marathon...

Here are Chris's shoes. At the time of this photo, we didn't know they were plotting against Chris.

And here is his outfit for the marathon...very fetching...

This is Mile 13, I think. At the first stop, I was standing there, and totally didn't see him until I heard him yelling for me. Then, I was so surprised, I took a picture of nothing. And then he was gone. I also saw him at mile 8, where I had to yell for him. He looked great! Then, I took the crowded, disorganized trolley to mile 13, and then I headed to the finish line, because it was on a military installation, so it took forever to get on, because they were doing full searches.

Here's Chris getting close to the finish line. He's got the white hat on, and the white shirt, and the grey shorts.

And here's Chris, about to cross the finish line. The time was about 10 minutes off, because they started the race about 10 minutes late...

Raisin...an homage

Raisin is an exceptionally cute puppy. He is also pretty weird. Here are some recent pictures of Rai, being Rai.

He's not shy of the camera, and often will be caught posing, a la glamour shots.

And he also likes to have his ears flap in the breeze as we drive along. Please notice that he is in a seatbelt, so is not likely to make it out of the window, should he attempt it.

And finally, the look that says it all..."huh?"

Picnic with the Puppies

A few weeks ago, Chris and I took the puppies up Huachuca Canyon for a picnic. We tethered them to the back of the car, and let them sniff around. Rai was mostly interested in eating the long grass and choking on it. Eden kept getting tangled under the picnic table. Chris and I ate some really yummy sandwiches and grapes. And then we went home.

Here's Rai! Looking so handsome...

And Eden...she's always so happy! (or asleep.)

Here is Chris and the two dogs...check out the awesome look on his face!

And another of Chris and the dogs...we couldn't get them to stand still for the picture.

Total dog chaos. So much for a nice 3/4 family picture.

I got "tagged"...

I don't know what "tagging" is, but I got tagged by Jennifer Starr on her blog (really funny...even if you don't know her, you should look because it's really hilarious...www.thestarrfamily.blogspot.com).

I guess I'm supposed to tell 7 random things about myself. Here it goes...

1. I can wiggle my ears independently of each other.

2. Chris almost broke up with me after I sang songs from The Little Mermaid while we waited in line at the post office.

3. I decided to go to law school because I couldn't pay off my undergrad loans, and the entrance exam for law school was the next one I could go (as opposed to the GREs or the other grad school tests).

4. When I had braces, I walked into the edge of a door that was open, and popped one of my brackets off. Then, I put it back on with a pliers.

5. Four hours before my first dance recital, I jumped down 12 steps and broke my ankle. I got to stand on stage and wiggle around.

6. When I get excited, I wiggle my toes.

7. I once ate fuzz because I thought it was chocolate.

That's it!

Raisin's quest for crumbs

So, as most people know, I am a big fan of food. My favorite place to eat it is in front of the TV or with a good book, curled up on the couch. Well, in the past few months, Raisin has realized that some of the crumbs have dropped under the couch cushions and pillows, and they have not been retrieved. Being the good dog that he is, he has taken the initiative to look for these crumbs himself, and dispose of them (aka eat them).

Here is Rai, searching every nook and cranny for the crumbs. Eden is helping him out by cheering him on.

Here he is again. Notice the look of concern on his face...wonder why? Well, he seems to have gotten himself stuck behind the pillows.

And here he is again, wondering if he should try to move forward or backward to get out of the couch. I helped him out by moving him off in an airborne position...gently.
