Formally Introducing Isabelle Katherine Pack

Well, here's how it all went...when I went into the doctor on Friday, September 7, he said my blood pressure was high and was worried about pre-eclampsia (aka toxemia), so he put me on bedrest for the weekend, and scheduled to induce me on Tuesday, Sept 11 at 6am. Bedrest sucked. Mostly because my blood pressure was high due to my recent diet of pizza and pepsi (my sister said that pepperoni pizza helped start labor...). Well, at 12:22am on Sept 11, my water broke. So much for scheduling everything. After 6 hours of labor, I had a C-section because the baby's heart rate was dropping every time I had a contraction. So, Izzy was born at 6:17am. She weighed 7lbs 2oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. She scored a 9 on her Apgar, only because she was blue when she came out. Blue, you ask? Yes, because she had the cord wrapped around her neck (Oh...that's why her heart rate was dropping...)

Anyways, Izzy (aka Izzy Kat aka Birdie Neck aka Isabelly) is doing well. She lost some weight, but that's normal. She is now 10 days old, and already has learned some fun things. Like it's best to wait to poop until either A) right after she's just had her diaper changed, or B) while getting her diaper changed (did you know that babies can have projectile poop?). She's also learned that she likes having her hair played with, and is too small for 0-3 clothes (we had to go out and buy some "just born" onesies, after the only ones that fit (that we got from a friend) all got pooped, spit up, and peed on). She also likes to lift her right arm in the air and just wave it around. Chris pretends she's raising her hand to ask a question. She doesn't ask any, though, because she's just a baby.

Eden and Raisin have been doing pretty well with Izzy so far. Eden often will let us know if Izzy is crying, by barking at her gate. They both love to lick Izzy's feet and face and hair and hands. Izzy doesn't seem to mind. This is a work in progress...

Anyways, here she is...

She was born with a full head of hair. Old wives tales say that if you had acid reflux while pregnant, the baby will have hair. I had reflux with a vengeance, and there's the hair!

This is Izzy, during Tummy Time. She's a riot.

She's gathered all her energy, and had decided to SPRING over the Boppy pillow. She didn't really spring. It was more of a lurch, then a flop...like when you drive stick, and stall in first gear. She'll get it though.

In this one, she's flashing elaborate gang signs, really quickly. You can barely see her fingers, because they are moving so rapidly. We didn't want her to start out this way, but in the hospital, she was labeled "Baby G", and you know how labeling is these days...

And here, she's waving good-bye to everyone. Or, she got an arm free and is still learning how arms work. I'm sticking with "good-bye" though.
