So, this is my first posting on the blog. I thought I would start a blog because Chris and I have our two new puppies. Eden is the boxer mix on the right/back. Raisin ("Rai") is the german shorthaired pointer on the left/front. For those who don't know, we got Eden about 6 weeks ago from a backyard breeder in Tucson. We met her daddy and mommy, and 9 of her brothers and sisters. The people we bought her from were very nice, and seemed like they really took good care of all the dogs. Eden's daddy is a purebred german boxer (bigger, more smushy snout). Her mommy was an american boxer (leaner, longer snout). Since Eden is a monster (at 9 weeks, already a whopping 18 lbs), we figure she'll look more like her daddy. We got Raisin about 3 weeks ago. We got him from a backyard breeder also in Tucson. I met both of his parents also. His daddy was pretty big. He had 7 siblings, I think. Chris really liked the coloring that Raisin had, so I picked him to play with Eden first (Eden came along to help me pick out a brother she liked). They got along great, running and playing and tackling each other. So, we got a winner right away! (After a prior stop at another backyard breeder whose dogs were skinny and yippy). Anyways, I bought Rai, and then all three of us went to PetSmart to buy things for a second dog. During that trip, we had an emergency vet appointment when Rai jumped out of the shopping cart. Anyways, on the way there, Rai threw up. He either gets car sick (he's done it a few times since then), or he hates riding in cars, so he works himself up to puking...yukky! Well, when we got the dogs home, Eden decided to be territorial, and began fighting with Rai, so since then, we've had to ease them both into sharing the home.
Now, they romp and play pretty well together. In the mornings, they are a little nippy, so we keep them apart. Outside, they're pretty good together, but in the house, they are still working on playing nice. They're getting better though.
Boxers are supposedly puppies for the first 3 years of their lives, at least. They do two really funny things. First, they do boxer burns, which consists of running in circles chasing their tails. Second, they get the zoomies, where they run around and around for no apparent reason. So far, Eden has done both. Last night, she ran back and forth in our kitchen, and then flopped down and fell asleep.
German shorthaired pointers are high energy, and excellent trackers. When pointers point, one foot raises as if in mid-step. Rai does that sometimes when he sees a bird. Talk about nature versus nurture (we have NEVER taught Rai to chase anything...wouldn't even know how to do it!)
Well, hopefully, there will be more interesting stories soon. Thanks for stopping by.
